A new underground cocktail bar is set to open inside The Sutler Saloon, the latest in the historic Melrose redevelopment on 8th Avenue South.”Rambler,” which owner Austin Ray describes as a “bar within a bar,” is being spearheaded by A.Ray Hospitality.
The restaurant group also owns The Sutler, Melrose Billiard Parlor, M.L.Rose Craft Beer & Burgers and Von Elrod’s Beer Garden & Sausage House.
While the cocktail lounge will be located in the basement of The Sutler, Rambler will be a standalone brand and destination, A.Ray Hospitality announced, making it one of three distinct bars to visit in Melrose.
Details are still in development, and Ray hasn’t announced when the new bar is expected to open.
Patrons can “expect a cocktail menu worth of exploring – but that doesn’t require a dictionary,” the group announced in a news release Friday.
Seating areas will be designed for different sized parties inside what has unofficially been known as “the Cellar” of The Sutler, which opened in 2014.
Phase two has since been completed in the Melrose apartment development located on the same property, bringing even more traffic to the adjacent bars and restaurants and an opportunity for the company to expand to add another brand.
